Configuring Calculated Channels

A calculated channel is a derived data series that is created by applying logged sensor data to a specific formula. The following calculated channels are available:

  • Reference Evapotranspiration. You can create this channel from the main HOBOlink menu. See Setting up a Reference Evapotranspiration Calculated Channel for details. Note that this calculated channel could previously only be created via dashboards.
  • Dew Point. This channel is automatically logged for RX3000 and RX2100 stations with temperature and RH sensors. You can also create a dew point channel via dashboards (see Working with Calculated Channels in Dashboards).
  • Accumulated Rain. This channel calculates the amount of rainfall over a period of time you specify (for example the total rainfall in one day). Rainfall is calculated over even accumulation windows, such as from the start of each day for daily totals, or from the start of each hour for hourly totals. These rainfall totals are calculated at the end of the time interval, such as the end of the day for daily accumulations. This channel requires a rain gauge sensor and can be created via dashboards (see Working with Calculated Channels in Dashboards). Note: RX2100 and RX3000 stations have a separate accumulated rainfall sensor alarm that does not require creating a calculated channel in a dashboard. See Sensor Alarms for details on how to set this up.
